Art Therapy
At Reach, Art Therapy is more than creating art. It’s a powerful and expressive way to work toward personal goals that extend far beyond the canvas. Led by a certified art therapist, each session is tailored to the individual’s unique needs and strengths.
Together with the participant or their caregiver, our art therapist helps set goals that may include improving focus, emotional regulation, communication, self-expression, confidence, or social skills. Whether through painting, drawing, or other creative mediums, art becomes a meaningful tool for healing and personal growth.
Why Choose Art Therapy?
Art therapy at Reach is more than just a creative outlet. It’s a personalized and evidence-based approach to growth, healing, and connection. Here’s how it can make a meaningful difference:
-
Reduces stress: Creating art can be calming and meditative, offering a break from overwhelming thoughts.
-
Boosts self-esteem: Finishing a project builds confidence and a sense of pride.
-
Supports healing: Art provides a safe, non-verbal way to process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions.
-
Enhances expression: Offers a meaningful way to communicate when words are hard to find.
-
Builds resilience: Helps develop healthier coping strategies for life’s challenges.
-
Builds self-awareness: The creative process deepens understanding of thoughts and feelings.

Meet Our Art Therapist
Emily Wright, M.S, ATR-P, RYT-200
Emily is an Art Therapist who has led Reach’s adaptive art program, Art Abilities, since 2015. She has a passion for helping individuals use art as a tool for expression and healing. Clients value her calm, grounded presence and her focus on emotional regulation through art therapy, talk therapy, and yoga-informed techniques.
Her sessions are designed to empower individuals to explore areas where they feel stuck and work together on solutions that help them move forward with purpose and confidence. Art therapy offers a unique way to connect with parts of the brain that words can’t always reach.
Outside of Reach, Emily leads yoga and goat yoga classes throughout the year. She also enjoys plein air painting, cooking, and spending time in nature.
